언제부터 대한민국이 살기 힘들다는 사실이 당연하게 되었을까? 아마 약 10년 전 청춘들이 아프기 시작했을 즈음일 테다. 국가가 병들기 시작하는 데 청년문제는 최초의 바이러스다. 바꾸어 말하면, 청년을 살리면 국가도 산다는 의미가 된다.
영국의 경우 1950년대 이후 세대들의 청년 시절 실질가구소득이 1950년대 세대보다 높았던 적이 한 번도 없다. 그런데 대한민국은 더 심각하다. 취업을 해서 돈을 모으고, 집을 사고, 아이를 낳으며 살던 예전과는 달리 학자금 대출부터 전세자금까지 빚으로 인생을 시작하는 동시에 경제적 정년을 맞이한다. 이 책은 공부의 딜레마, 청년 실업, 결혼, 빈부격차, 주거문제 등 우리가 실제로 겪고 있는 어두운 사회의 민낯을 여실히 드러냈다.
세계의 정치경제에 얽매인 대한민국의 속사정, 그리고 국내의 사회경제적 이슈들까지 면밀히 분석해 대한민국의 현재를 제대로 짚어주었다. 특히 미래가 보이지 않는 젊은 세대의 비극을 거시적인 사회 시스템을 분석해 그 원인을 명명백백 밝혔다. 이는 젊은 세대의 어둠이 ‘우리’의 문제로, 나아가 대한민국의 성장 열쇠를 쥐고 있는 중요한 문제로 인식되도록 최소한의 지식을 갖추기 위함이다.

When did it become natural that Korea was hard to live? Probably when youth began to hurt about ten years ago. The youth problem is the first virus that the country is beginning to get sick. In other words, living a youth means living in a country.
In the United Kingdom, there has never been a real household income higher than that of the 1950s. But Korea is more serious. Unlike in the past, where young people earn money by working, buying a house, and having a baby, they start their life with debts ranging from student loans to chartered funds, and at the same time, they face economic retirement. This book reveals the dilemma of study, the youth unemployment, the marriage, the gap between the rich and the poor, and the housing problem.
It closely analyzed the current state of Korea and the domestic socioeconomic issues that are tied to the political economy of the world. In particular, the tragedy of a young generation that does not see the future is analyzed by a macroscopic social system and its causes are clarified. This is to ensure that the darkness of the younger generation is at least a matter of ‘us’, and that it is recognized as an important issue that holds the key to growth of Korea.

권기둥(Kwon, Gidoong)
과학고, 카이스트 수학과, 서울대 경영대학원을 거쳤다. 공부보다는 게임, 야근보다는 가족과 함께하는 저녁을 좋아하지만 치열함을 요구하는 대한민국에서 살다 보니 공부 잘하는 모범생의 길을 걸어오게 되었다.
일본계 종합상사에서 첫 사회생활을 시작하며“세계는 넓고 할 일은 많다”는 사실을 느꼈다. 또 미래에셋은퇴연구소에서 4년여를 연구원으로 보내면서 젊은이의 눈으로 은퇴를 바라보는 색다른 시각을 얻었다. 삼성증권에서 퀀트(금융시장 분석가)로 재직한 이후 스타트업을 경험하며 울타리 밖 세상의 쌀쌀함을 온몸으로 느끼고 있다.
전국투자자교육협의회와 생명보험협회 등에서 전문강사로 활동하고 있고, 다양한 주제로 강연을 한다.
Gidoong Kwon went to the Graduate School of Science, KAIST Math Department, and SNU Graduate School of Business. The author likes dinner with his family rather than studying games and night work, but when he lived in Korea, which demanded fierce, he walked the path of a good school student who studied well.
The author started his first social life at a Japanese general trading company and felt that “the world is large and there is a lot of work to do.” He also spent four years at the Mirae Asset Retirement Research Institute as a researcher and gained a different perspective on the retirement of young people. He has been working as a financial analyst for Quantel (Samsung Securities) and has been experiencing a start-up and is feeling the coldness of the world outside the fence.
He is a professional lecturer at the National Investor Education Council and the Life Insurance Association, and lectures on various topics.
