이 책은 생물학이란 무엇인지, 생물학에는 어떤 분야들이 있는지, 어떻게 공부해야 하고, 어떤 일을 할 수 있는지를 하나하나 소개했다. 또 행복하게 생물학을 공부하려면 어떤 준비를 하고, 어떤 마음을 지녀야 하는지에 대해서도 꼽아 보았다. 생물학을 배웠다고 해서 반드시 생물학자가 되어야 한다고 말하지 않는다. 생물을 공부하여 얻은 지식과 성품을 바탕으로 다양한 분야에서 멋진 꿈을 펼칠 수 있다는 것도 보여 준다.

What is biology? What can we learn biology?
This book introduces what biology is, what fields are in biology, how to study, and what to do. 부여의 산골에서 나고 자랐으며, 이화여자대학교 영어교육과를 졸업하고, 성신여자대학교 생물학과에서 곤충학 박사학위를 받았습니다. 30대 초반부터 전국의 유적지를 답사하면서 자연에 눈을 떠 야생화, 새, 버섯 등을 공부하기 시작했습니다. 우리나라 딱정벌레목 대가의 가르침을 받기 위해 성신여자대학교 생물학과 대학원에 입학해 석사학위와 박사학위를 받았습니다.
이화여자대학교 에코과학연구소에서 연구원 활동을 했고, 여러 대학에서 강의하고 있습니다. 영남대학교 동물계통분류연구실에서 박사후과정 국내연수를 밟았고, 2013년 현재는 고려 대학교 곤충연구소에서 활동하고 있습니다. 대한민국 생물지 발간 사업, 전국환경조사, 자생종 발굴사업, 각종 환경평가 등에 참여해 곤충 조사를 해 오고 있으며, 곤충의 대중화에도 관심이 커‘ 곤충사랑 풀뿌리운동’에 힘을 보태고 있습니다.
《곤충의 밥상》, 《곤충의 유토피아》, 《곤충마음 야생화 마음》, 《버섯살이 곤충의 사생활》, 《나무와 곤충의 오랜 동행》 등을 썼습니다.

The author was born and raised in Buyeo, graduated from Ewha Womans University Department of English Education, and received Ph.D. in Entomology from Sungshin Women’s University. She began to study wildflowers, birds, mushrooms, and other things in the nature while exploring heritage sites in her early thirties. In order to receive the teachings of the beetles of Korea, She entered the Graduate School of Biology, Sungshin Women’s University and received my master’s degree and doctor’s degree.
She has worked as a researcher at Ehwa Women ‘s University Eco – Science Institute and is teaching at several universities. He has trained in postdoctoral studies at the Yeungnam University Animal Systematics Classification Laboratory and currently works at Korea University Insect Research Institute in 2013. She has been conducting insect investigations in the Korea Biological Publishing Project, national environmental surveys, wildlife breeding projects and various environmental assessments, and is interested in the popularization of insects, thus contributing to the “insect love grassroots movement.”
The authors wrote “Insect food,” “Utopia of insects,” “Wild heart of insect hearts,” “Private life of mushroom insects,” and “Long walk with trees and insects.”
