베이징에서 태어나 북경어언대학교(北京語言大學)에서 대외한어를 전공하셨다. 한국으로 건너와 성균관대학교 중어중문학과에서 석사와 박사 과정을 마치고 현재 인하대학교 중국언어문화학과 교수로 재직 중이다. 기업체 강의 시절, 비즈니스 중국어를 어렵게 생각하면서도 과중한 업무로 인해 공부할 시간이 없다는 직장인들의 고민을 자주 접할 수 있었다. 이들을 위해 필요한 표현만 골라서 쓸 수 있고, 더불어 중국인과 무리 없이 소통할 수 있는 ‘진짜’ 중국어 표현을 모아 ≪비즈니스 중국어회화 이메일 표현사전≫을 집필했다.

The author was born in Beijing and majored in foreign languages at Peking University. She has graduated from Sungkyunkwan University with a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Chinese Language and Literature. Currently, she is a professor of Chinese Language and Culture at Inha University. During the company lecture, the author was often confronted with the troubles of the workers who had difficulty in studying due to heavy work while thinking about business Chinese difficult. She also wrote “Business Chinese Expression Dictionary”, collecting “real” Chinese expressions, which can be used only by expressing necessary expressions and communicating with Chinese people.

영어와 한국어를 일대일로 대응하는 주입식 학습법에 회의를 느껴, 그간 쌓은 영어 지식과 영어 문화권에서의 경험을 알려주는 유튜브 채널을 만들었다. 채널 개설 1년 만에 10만 구독자 달성, 45만 명을 돌파한 지금까지 꾸준히 구독자들과 소통하고 있다. 깔끔한 진행, 영어 초보자의 눈높이에 맞춘 설명, 영어에 관해서 만큼은 진지한 태도, 현란한 의상이 인기 비결이다.

‘영어 알려주는 남자’라는 이름에서 알 수 있듯이, 스스로를 ‘가르치는’ 선생님이 아닌 ‘알려주는’ 사람이라고 칭한다. 일방적으로 주입하는 콘텐츠가 아닌 학습자와 소통하는 모습으로 구독자들에게 크게 어필하고 있다. 특히 학교에서 잘못 배운 영단어의 개념을 바로 잡아주는 콘텐츠가 폭풍적인 인기를 얻었다. 영단어가 가진 큰 그림을 알면 암기 없이도 단어가 가진 다양한 뜻을 유추할 수 있다는 내용이다. 구독자들의 열화와 같은 성원으로 책으로 엮어 출간하기로 결심했다.

억울한 싸움에 휘말려 고등학교를 자퇴하고 방황하던 중 불현 듯 영어에 꽂혔다. 기초 단어도 모르는 영어 초보였지만 영어의 매력에 푹 빠져들었다. 그 후 영어 초보자에게 맞는 영어 학습법을 찾아다녔다. 현존하는 거의 모든 영어 학습법을 시도했으나 영어 초보자의 말문을 열어 줄 궁극적인 학습법은 찾지 못했다. 거듭되는 실패에 회의감을 느낄 때쯤, 운명처럼 ‘스토리텔링 훈련법’을 만났다. ‘스토리텔링 훈련법’은 아이가 부모의 소리를 들으며 모국어를 익히는 과정을 영어 학습법으로 구현한 방법이다. 이 훈련법으로 독하게 트레이닝한 결과 3개월 만에 영어 말문이 트여 영어를 우리말처럼 자유롭게 구사할 수 있게 되었다. 영어 하나도 모르던 고교 중퇴 영포자가 끝내 미국 UC버클리에 합격하는 기적을 이뤄냈다.
저자는 현재 ‘코어소리영어’ 대표이자 영어 전문 강사로 활동 중이다. ‘우리나라 영어 교육을 바꾸겠다’는 일념으로 영어 초보자들에게 ‘스토리텔링 훈련법’을 널리 알리고 있다.

The author was involved in unfair fighting, dropped out of high school, and while he was wandering, he was interested in studying English. He was a beginner in English who did not even know the basics, but he was immersed in the charm of English. After that, the author searched for an English learning method suitable for English beginners. He tried almost all existing English learning methods, but he did not find the ultimate learning method that would open up the vocabulary of English beginners. As the author felt skeptical of repeated failures, he met the Storytelling Training Act like fate. ‘Storytelling Training Method’ is a method that the child learns the mother tongue by listening to the parents’ voice by implementing the English learning method. After training with this training method, the author was able to speak English in three months freely, like English. And, he made a miracle to pass UC Berkeley in the United States.
The author is currently a representative of Core Sound English and an English language instructor. ‘Storytelling Training Method’ is widely known to beginners in English with the belief that ‘I will change our English education in Korea’.
