임흥준은 대학에서 무역학을 전공했고, 평화은행에 잠시 근무하다가 1999년 삼성전기에 입사했다. 당시 삼성전기는 자체 개발한 미니프린터의 수출 가능성을 점검하기 위해 해외영업팀을 꾸리던 중이었다. 막 영업을 시작한 임흥준에겐 찾아갈 거래선도, 오라는 거래선도 없었다. 신사업이었으니 해외 거래선이 없는 건 당연했고, 은행원이라는 엉뚱한 경력을 지닌 탓에 복기할 만한 경험도 없었다.
거듭되는 실패를 겪으면서 한 가지 깨달은 바가 있었다. 영업의 기본은 사람이라는 점이다. 시장과 고객을 이해하지 못하는 영업자에게 성공은 먼 나라 이야기였다. 쟁쟁한 경쟁사에 맞서 시장을 개척하려면 전문가답게 판단하고 행동해야 했지만, 짧은 기간에 변하기는 쉽지 않았다. 이때 대학 시절 교수님의 말이 떠올랐다.

‘Why am I born in this age and in this country?’ – The birth of a new class of job-seekers

강선일(Kang, Sunil)
1986년생. 부산에서 태어나 초등학교 1학년 마치고 수도권으로 이사 왔다. 어린 시절 할머니께서 사 주신 5권짜리 “만화 한국사”를 읽고 ‘역사학자가 되고 싶다’는 꿈이 생겼고, 결국 국민대학교 사학과에 입학했다. 막연히 글을 쓰고 사는 삶을 꿈꾸다가, 2013년 초 남북 대치 상황의 김포 주민에 대해 쓴 기사로 “오마이뉴스” 기사 공모전 ‘청춘기자상’에서 우수상을 받았다. 같은 해 7월, 어린 시절의 ‘트라우마’에 관한 글을 써 “오마이뉴스”에서 한 번 더 상을 받았다. 그리고 사회 문제에 대한 관심을, 자신과 같은 ‘취업 준비생’을 다룬 “대한민국 취업 전쟁 보고서”로 이어 가게 되었다.

나해리(Na, Harry)
1990년생. 5살 때부터 내리 고양시에서 살아왔다. 영어와 문학을 좋아해서 서강대학교 영문학과에 입학했다. 13살 때부터 적성에 맞는 학문이라고 생각했던 영문학은 생각보다 재미가 없었다. 경영학을 복수 전공했지만 역시 흥미로운 학문은 아니었다. 2년 동안 취업 전형에서 번번이 떨어지기만 했다. 연속된 불합격으로 의기소침해하다가 인연이 닿아 “대한민국 취업 전쟁 보고서”에 참여하게 되었다.

정은주(Jeong, Eunjoo)
매주 금요일 마감 시간이 되면, ‘이 세상엔 내가 잘할 수 있는 일이 분명히 따로 있지 않을까’ 괴로워하며 밤새 기사를 쓴다. 13년째 고달픈 인생이다. ‘잘할 수 있는 일’을 선택해야 했는데, ‘하고 싶은 일’을 택한 탓이다. 이런 고민과 고통을 세 젊은이와 “대한민국 취업 전쟁 보고서”에 고스란히 녹여냈다.
대학 학보사를 거쳐 2002년에 “서울신문” 사회부 기자가 됐고, 2010년에 “한겨레” 경제부 기자가 됐다. 현재 “한겨레21” 사회팀장이다.

A philosopher, cultural historian and writer who has been named “The Observer” in England as a representative ‘lifestyle philosopher’ in the UK. He is a founding faculty member of the School of Life, an internationally recognized sympathizer, and works as an adviser to Oxfam and the United Nations in areas that use social empathy and dialogue to create social change. The RSA animated video “The Power of Outrospection,” which talks about the power of empathy, was watched by more than 500,000 people.

After growing up in Sydney and Hong Kong, he studied at Oxford and London University and received his doctorate from Essex University. He taught sociology and politics at the University of Cambridge, Essex University, and the City University of London and conducted research on human rights in Aboriginal and Aboriginal peoples in Central America. Nate Silver, who majored in economics at the University of Chicago, is an enthusiastic baseball fan and since 2002, he has started to gain recognition by running PECOTA, a baseball player prediction system based on athletes’ data. In 2007, he anonymously conducted a political analysis related to the presidential election. In March 2008, he opened his own website, “FiveThirtyEight”, and started public activities.
Silver predicted the 2008 presidential election results of 49 out of 50 states more precisely than anyone else, and all 35 elected Senators in the general election. Obviously, he got huge popularity and many people paid attention to his prediction. So in the US presidential election in 2012, every time he posted on the blog, every party that became sensitive was busy putting up a significant comment. The first debate was held with the two candidates competing for the show, and Republican candidate Romney’s unexpected breakthrough predicted Romney’s victory in most polling stations. However, Silver pitched Obama’s victory, and the result ended with his victory, which also matched the results of all 50 states.
