본명보다‘라이언(Ryan) 쌤’으로 더 잘 알려져 있다. 한국외대 영어학과 졸업 후 International House Sydney TEFL, Cambridge University ICELT 프로그램을 거치면서 재미있고 다양한 영어 수업방식을 경험하였다. 서울 염광고등학교 부임 후 틀에 박힌 영어수업 방식에서 벗어나 학생들의 눈과 귀를 사로잡는 뻔뻔(fun fun)한 영어 수업법을 개발하여 학생들에게 인정받고, 이를 계기로 “제2회 전국 중등영어교사 수업 경연대회”에 참가해 대상을 차지하였다. 이후 독창적이고 톡톡 튀는 그만의 영어 수업법이 TV, 잡지, 신문 등에 소개되며 주목을 받고 있으며, 현재 강원도부터 제주도까지 전국 영어 교사들을 위한 ‘교사 트레이너’로도 활약하고 있다.

English teacher who thinks about how to study English fun. He is better known as “Ryan” than his real name. After graduating from the Department of English in Korea University, Ryan went through the International House Sydney TEFL and the Cambridge University ICELT program to experience interesting and varied English teaching methods. After graduating from Seoul High School, He developed a fun fun English lesson that attracted the students’ eyes and ears. As a result, I participated in the “2nd National Secondary English Teacher Class Contest” and won the prize. In this book, you will train 1000 sentences 5 times each and 5000 speeches in order to ‘memorize procedurally’ English. 저자 에밀리는 대학 새내기 때 필수로 들어야 하던 독일어 교양 수업에서 C- 학점을 맞은 뒤, 다시는 독일어 따위 쳐다보지도 않으리라 결심한다. 그러나 몇 년 후 울며 겨자먹기로 재수강한 독일어 수업에서 교수님의 독일 유학 무용담에 푹 빠져, 어느새 원래 전공인 정치외교학과 더불어 독일문화학을 복수전공하고야 만다. 독일에서 극우주의가 한창 기승을 부리던 2015년 방문학생 자격으로 콘스탄츠 대학교에서 한 학기 동안 정치학을 공부하고, 2017년에는 예나 대학교 정치학 석사생으로서 본격적인 독일 생활을 시작한다. 한국에서 독일어 공부를 미리 하고 온 게 무색할 정도로 현지에서 언어 때문에 고생을 하며, 나와 같은 어려움을 겪는 사람들과 연대하고자 만든 유튜브 채널 ‘독일어 혼자 공부하기’가 오늘날 구독자 8만 명에 달하는 ‘Emily mit Ypsilon’ 채널의 시작이다. 내 생각과 감정을 독일어로 막힘 없이 표현할 수 있는 자유로움, 재미없기로 소문난 독일식 유머를 이해할 수 있는 기쁨, 원어민들에게 독일에서 태어난 거 아니었냐는 질문을 받을 때의 희열을 모두와 나누고 싶어 영상을 만들고, 책을 쓴다.

The author, Emily, gets a C- in the German liberal arts class, which she had to take as a freshman in college, and decides not to look at German again. However, a few years later, she retakes her class crying and eating mustard, and she falls in love with her professor’s saga of studying abroad in Germany in a German class. She studied political science for one semester at the University of Konstanz as a visiting student in 2015, when far-rightism was at its peak in Germany, and in 2017, she started her life in Germany as a master’s student in political science at Jena University. The YouTube channel ‘Study German Alone’, which was created to connect with people who struggled with the language in Korea, to the extent that it was inconceivable that they had studied German in advance in Korea, is ‘Emily mit Ypsilon’, which has 80,000 subscribers today. ‘ This is the beginning of the channel.
